Detroit Dark Red Beet

4.00

A consistently tasty and widely adapted heirloom dating from 1892 that was originally bred in Canada. Produces a 3 round beet or larger with good flavor and keeping ability. It does suffer under the intense New Mexico sun, but does well with a little protection. Excellent greens for cooking as well, although not as large as some varieties.

Planting Instructions: You can begin sowing beets in the garden when the temperatures have warmed somewhat. Sow around 15 seeds/ foot in rows 8-12 apart at a depth of a half-inch. Thin beets to 1 every few inches for larger beets, or simply thin as you harvest eating the baby beets as you go. For a continuous supply, beets can be planted every couple of weeks until around 8 weeks before the first hard frosts.
